New part number. Same TestStand sequence.

Variant Manager reads your NI TestStand sequence and keeps each part number's limits and variables outside the .seq. Duplicate a variant, change what differs, and TS Var Loader applies the values at run time. Every change records who, when and the previous value. Interface in English and Spanish.

The sequence stays untouched. Each part number's values live outside it.

The sequence is read-only

Variant Manager reads it to build the tree of steps and variables, and never writes to the .seq. Each recipe's values are applied at run time.

No rewriting your limits

It reads each step's limit fields and each variable's value exactly as they are in the sequence. No need to turn limits into variables or to maintain INI files or Excel sheets.

Every change has a name and a date

Each variant's history records who changed what, when, and from which value to which, and exports to CSV. Individual users and a read-only guest mode.

One-time payment, on the station

Perpetual license per station, no expiry, activated offline. Runs with the Bravo-101 ATE Framework on the station's own PC.

What it looks like with a real sequence.

Short silent clips recorded in Variant Manager with the synthetic BDB-100 sequence: the same product family as the Report Analyzer and Report Viewer demos.

  1. Clip: the BDB-100 product is added by picking BDB100_FCT.seq in the Windows dialog and the step tree appears with its limits

1 · The tree comes from your sequence

Pick the .seq and its steps appear with their limits

Add the product, pick the sequence in the Windows dialog and Variant Manager builds the tree by sequence and step, with the comparison, low, high and units exactly as written in TestStand. You decide which properties to manage.

  2. Clip: switching from variant BDB100A to BDB100B changes only the upper limit of 5V_OUT Voltage

2 · Each part number with its values

Switch variants and only what differs changes

One click on BDB100A and the 5V_OUT Voltage row reads 4.75 / 5.25 V. One click on BDB100B and the same row reads 4.8 / 5.2 V. Nothing else moves: one sequence, values per part number.

  3. Clip: the base variant is duplicated, renamed BDB100C, a limit is edited and saved

    3 · New part number

Duplicate the base, change one cell and save

Duplicate creates the new variant with every value of the base; rename it, edit the cell that differs and save with Ctrl+S. The new part number is ready without opening the .seq.

  4. Clip: a limit edit enters the change history with time, user, and the previous and new value

    4 · Who changed what

Every edit enters the history with user and previous value

Before saving, the change shows as "Unsaved". On save, the row records the time, the user, and the previous and new value. It's the evidence quality or an audit asks for.

  5. Clip: parameters are exported to CSV, edited in Excel and imported back into Variant Manager

5 · Round trip through CSV

Export to CSV, edit in Excel and import

Export a variant's parameters, change values in Excel and import them back; every row is validated against the tree and the change stays pending until you save. The day's history exports to CSV too.

What it reads and applies today, plainly.

Being exact here matters more than sounding impressive. If your values live somewhere else, write to us before you buy.

Numeric limit steps

Numeric Limit and Multiple Numeric Limit, with any comparison: low, high and units per measurement. If the limit is computed at run time, the expression is shown.

String and Pass/Fail steps

String Value with its expected value and comparison; Pass/Fail with its source.

Sequence variables

File globals and container variables: number, string, boolean, arrays and containers, with the TestStand comment as description.

How it reaches the test

The sequence adds one step that calls TS Var Loader with the variant; the loader applies the values at run time, by data type. Your steps and your limits stay as they are.

When the sequence changes

Sync the product and Variant Manager tells you which steps are added, which change and which are removed, across every variant.

What Variant Manager doesn't do.

It isn't a sequence editor

Test logic is written and maintained in TestStand, with its Development license. Variant Manager reads the sequence and never writes to it.

It doesn't run tests

TestStand keeps running the sequence and choosing the variant; Variant Manager keeps the values and TS Var Loader applies them.

It isn't an operator interface

It's for test, sustaining and quality engineers who manage product configuration.

It doesn't stop the test for an empty value

An empty or disabled value is skipped and the step keeps what the sequence says. There is no approval flow: there is history.

One license, one station, no expiry.

1 · Try it

Download the installer and start the free trial with every feature. Also install the Bravo-101 ATE Framework on the same station: it's the background service Variant Manager talks to.

2 · Buy the license

When you're ready; checkout doesn't ask for machine details.

3 · Activate it

Send the code from Tools › Upgrade License (it starts with vmgr:) on "Activate your license" and get your key the next business day. If you change the station's PC, we reissue the key at no cost.

The family

  1. Designing the station from the spec?

Themis FCT Agent proposes the station and builds the sequence with limits in the step and variable paths, ready for Variant Manager.

    See Themis

  2. What did that limit change do on the line?

Variant Manager changes what goes into the test; Report Analyzer shows you in the reports what that change did.

Questions

Does it modify my sequence file?

Never. Variant Manager reads the .seq to build the tree, and the file is read-only for the tool. Each variant's values live in its local database and are applied at run time.

Do I have to rewrite my sequences?

No. Steps and their limits stay as they are. The only addition is one step that calls TS Var Loader with the right variant; the documentation shows how.

Why not a property file with Excel?

Loading values can already be done in several ways. Variant Manager competes on managing them: the tree comes from your sequence, every step reads with its limits and units, a new part number comes from duplicating the base, and every change records who, when and the previous value.

Do I still need a TestStand Development license?

Yes, to write and maintain the sequence. What goes away is the reason to keep one on a production station just to change a value.

What do I need to install on the station?

Variant Manager and the Bravo-101 ATE Framework (the background service), on Windows x64 with NI TestStand 2025 and TPM 2.0. TS Var Loader ships in the installer. Downloads: Variant Manager 1.2.0 and ATE Framework 1.2.0, both as MSI for Windows x64.

Is the license a subscription?

No. It's a one-time purchase, valid forever on one station, and it activates offline.

What if I change the station's PC?

Contact us with the new PC's vmgr: code and we reissue the key at no cost.
